What is LawnLinen?

LawnLinen is a small, independent website built around four free calculators for people sewing or shopping for fabric: a Fabric Yardage Calculator, a Fabric Weight Converter, a Bedding Size Calculator, and a Curtain Fabric Calculator. Alongside the tools there’s a blog, a set of reference guides, and a small Natural Fibers & Textiles section that walks through fiber and fabric history using material sourced from Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons.

How do the tools actually work?

Each calculator runs a fixed formula, not a black-box estimate. The Fabric Yardage Calculator takes piece count, piece size, fabric width, and a wastage allowance to work out yardage for projects made up of identical pieces. The Fabric Weight Converter converts between GSM, oz/yd², and silk momme and flags a rough weight class (lightweight, mid-weight, heavyweight) so you can gauge drape before you buy. The Bedding Size Calculator works from standard mattress dimensions to give cut sizes for fitted sheets, flat sheets, and duvet covers, plus the fabric a duvet cover will take. The Curtain Fabric Calculator works from track width, drop, and fullness, and accounts for pattern-repeat matching when a fabric has one.

Where do the numbers come from?

From standard sewing and textile conventions — the same width allowances, fullness ratios, and unit conversions (GSM, oz/yd², momme) used across sewing references generally, not from a proprietary dataset. They aren’t pulled from a live pricing feed or a particular retailer’s size chart.

Are the results exact?

No — treat every result as an estimate. Real yardage depends on your specific pattern layout, fabric width, and how much you trust your own cutting; real bedding and curtain fit depends on the exact mattress or window you have. Add your own margin before you cut, and check a large or expensive piece of fabric before committing to a calculator’s number.
